Ellistone hands you a machine and the keys to it. You choose the operating system at build. You install what you want on top of it. You configure the firewall, the web server, the runtime and the database, and you decide when any of it gets updated.
The host, the network and the infrastructure underneath you are our responsibility, and a hardware or network fault is ours to resolve rather than yours to chase. Above the operating system, nothing is monitored, patched or restored on your behalf. That is not a gap in the product. It is the product.

Backups and security are yours on Ellistone
The managed daily backup service that Ashford, Kingsley and Alderley include is not part of an unmanaged VPS, and neither is patching, firewalling or malware scanning. Anything you cannot afford to lose should be backed up somewhere else, and we would rather say that here than after the fact.

Who looks after what
Ellistone is unmanaged. Above the operating system nothing is monitored, patched or restored on your behalf, and backups, snapshots and managed monitoring are included only where the order says so. A rebuild or reimage may permanently erase the server. We may isolate or suspend a compromised server to protect the network and other customers. Any upstream network availability figure belongs to the infrastructure, not to your contract with us, and does not create a service-credit entitlement unless your order expressly says it does.

Support covers the machine, not what you run on it. We will help with a host or network fault. We will not debug your server configuration.
Which operating systems can I have?
A choice of supported operating systems, selected when the machine is built. Tell us what you need to run and we will confirm what we can build.
Do I get the daily backups?
No. The managed daily backup service belongs to the hosting families. On an unmanaged VPS, backups are your responsibility, and anything you cannot lose should be copied somewhere else.
Can I upgrade later?
Yes. Ask and we will tell you what a resize involves and whether it needs a reboot.
